1974
- First discovered abililty to blow out candles by droolling 1975 - Here's me playing my first drumkit! It had one drum (so not quite a drumkit) but I had the required dumb look on my face down pat! 1980 - Trivia fact one: The Empire Strikes Back is released. 1982 - Trivia fact two: The year Blade Runner was released and the year my bro was born and I became a big brother.
1986 - Started High School at Hami High, and introduced to the Blue Light disco. Bought an Impact drum kit and a Commodore AMIGA computer. Started a band with my oldest and best mate Matt Jenkins of The Giant Steps fame, and I was dubbed "sidchrome" as a nickname, (my skateboard was a piece of proverbial and was always breaking down so I carried a sidchrome spanner around with me). There....finally! All rumours that I got my nickname from Sid Vicious dispelled. 1989 - 1996 Left School and got a job. Started playing drums in Liquid Altar, Matt's and my first band. After many different line-ups we recorded our own albums worth of material on a four track recorder, but (and fortunately) our friends and family where the only ones to hear it. After many different line-ups we finally gave it up in 1996. I got into recording further. 1997 - Did some stuff. Not quite sure what. Bit of a blur. 1998 - The year I met Sharpy and the world of musical hording. Hording for us meant getting anything that was remotely musical, or to do with recording music, store it in the lounge room then try and find a place to sit down. Old computer cases, speakers, from the side of the road, anything at all. When Paul spotted a set of NS10 studio moniters in the Quokka, then checked out his bank account and found money enough to by them, I knew we where on our way to setting up a kick arse studio. 1999
- The fateful meeting: One day in Vic Park I was helping Paul distribute
posters for bands and we bumped into a friend of Paul's (Paul knows
to many people), doing the same thing for his own band. He introduced
himself as Grant. We got chatting and he invited us to come up to the
studio where his band was currently recording in The Upper Room, run
by (the now famous to Idle55 fans) Kieran Kenderessy. It was a hive
of activity. Emily was recording vocals and it sounded fantastic! So
numbers where exchanged and we took our leave. Grant kept us up to date on the recordings with Idle55 and we continued with his side project , when one day Grant came into the studio and said Idle55 wanted to record with us in an "Electronic" vibe. The song hadn't been written yet so we made it up on the spot, the only theme we had was "an ode to Marco's Pizza". Some four months later "Sustenance" was born, with Idle55 and VLSA Productions performing together for this one song a few weeks later, at the Sapphire Bar. Time passed, Idle55 travelled the world while Paul and I set up a new studio, in the Orange tree gallery formally known as Monkey Music in Northbridge. Grant and Em returned from thier journey. 2002 - Drummers, drummers, drummers, what can I say, I'm one to, but Idle55 must have had more drummers than the Titanic had life boats. Having worked with Idle55 in recordings and as a live mixer, I became versed in all things Idle (bible). When I was asked to join them in WORLD DOMINATION!!! I couldn't let the opportunity slip by. Practice makes perfect, I can know drool and keep a dumb look on my face at the same time! Watch my face, I mean watch this space........
